Drowning Myself in The Gene Pool

Dear John: Well, you've struck on the very thing that caused me to decide when I was only 8 years old that I would never never bear children. For exactly the reasons you cite, as well as the fact that I knew even then, that the times we now find ourselves in were coming and worse yet to come. I couldn't bring myself to condem children to that world, of no volition of their own. I can recall grieving that decision then, and for many years to come, but it was the only way I could think to be part of stopping the lemming's rush to destruction. Perhaps I'm just a pessimistic coward. And I too feel the anger at those who came before us. But, they probably did the best they could. Whether or not it was the best they knew how, I have no way to judge. But generally, people do on the whole the best they *can.* It doesn't make it any better really, other than it reliees my heart of one tiny burden made all the heavier by the burden of being awake, aware, and sane, in a mad mad world. The irony of it all is that those of us who have the humility and moral fibre to resist reproducing are probably exactly the ones who *should* be making more of ourselves.
